Water Resource Compliance Advisor

Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom Scottish Water Full time

Join Us in Protecting Scotland's Water Resources.

At Scottish Water, we are dedicated to safeguarding Scotland's invaluable natural resource—water. Our mission is to ensure a sustainable supply of high-quality water while actively caring for the environment.

We are currently seeking a Water Resource Compliance Advisor to become a vital member of our Water Resource Planning team.

This position is part of the Environment, Planning & Assurance Directorate (EPA) and is essential in maintaining an exceptional water supply while fostering sustainable economic growth.

The Water Resource Planning Team operates across Scotland, tasked with balancing available water resources against demand. This ensures a reliable water supply for both the public and the economy, addresses climate change challenges, and protects our environment.

Our team serves as a center of expertise in water resource planning, abstraction licensing, and compliance, all while meeting regulatory environmental standards.

Your Responsibilities

As a Water Resource Compliance Advisor, you will take a leading role in overseeing Scottish Water's abstraction and impoundment activities, providing expert guidance on water compliance matters.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring and measuring compensation flows, maintaining fish passes, and managing raw water transfers.
  • Reporting on regulatory compliance related to abstraction and compensation to relevant stakeholders.
  • Enhancing our compliance processes and data reporting, managing extensive databases to demonstrate adherence to regulations.
  • Conducting data analysis and problem-solving for non-compliance issues.
  • Preparing CAR licence applications for SEPA, including new applications and amendments.
  • Identifying necessary studies or solutions to enhance the water environment, protect aquatic habitats, and support endangered species.

This role will involve regular meetings with stakeholders to discuss operational practices, compliance resolutions, improvement strategies, and project updates.

You will be expected to independently advise on water licence management while also engaging collaboratively with various teams. Your ability to make informed decisions and take ownership of compliance processes will be crucial.

Your Skills and Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Excellent communication skills to convey complex issues to diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and effective planning skills based on thorough evidence evaluation.
  • Proficiency in IT and analytical tasks, along with report writing capabilities.
  • Initiative and creativity in achieving objectives.

Additional desirable qualifications include:

  • Understanding of the raw water supply process and relevant regulatory frameworks.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems to enhance data and processes.

Supporting Your Work-Life Balance

At Scottish Water, we value the importance of work-life balance. We offer generous holiday allowances, flexible working arrangements, and family-friendly policies to support major life events.

Our commitment to your future includes a pension plan and life assurance, ensuring you are well-prepared for what lies ahead.

Final Notes

We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences. If you believe you could contribute to our mission, we welcome your application.

As part of our commitment to a thriving Scotland, we require all employees to be Scottish taxpayers. If you are not currently residing in Scotland, you will need to relocate within a specified timeframe.
