Overview

All candidates must possess the ability to obtain Security Clearance and have resided in the UK for a minimum of five years.

Work Environment: This position is primarily office/hybrid based, with occasional travel to various company or client sites within the UK or internationally. The expected office presence is approximately 2-3 days per week, contingent on project requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for Product Safety Assurance concerning equipment design in accordance with client specifications.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure that safety considerations are integral to the design process, taking into account the entire product lifecycle.
  • Oversee and manage the implementation of the Project Safety Management System for equipment design and delivery.
  • Adapt working practices as necessary to ensure effective and economical management of product safety.
  • Resolve various Product Safety engineering challenges, preparing technical reports and presentations as needed.
  • Develop safety arguments for diverse equipment, utilizing all aspects of the product safety lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with Product Safety standards as defined by statutory, business, and client requirements for heavy-duty equipment.
  • Collaborate effectively with a team of Product Safety Engineers across the organization.

Required Experience:

  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant field such as Physics, Engineering, Electronics, Hardware, Computer Science, Safety, or Systems Engineering.
  • Proven expertise in Product Safety Engineering, with a successful history of implementing a Product Safety Management System (PSMS) in complex environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and standards (e.g., HASAWA, COSHH, REACh, BS EN 61508, Def Stan 00-056, etc.).

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience in the Defence or Aerospace sectors, or in safety-regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with the Naval or Maritime domain.
  • Possession of CEng or equivalent experience with the potential to achieve it in the near future.
  • Membership in a recognized industry body, such as SCSC, SaRS, IET, or IMechE.
