Senior Electrical Safety Testing Engineer

As a Senior Electrical Safety Testing Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to conduct electrical safety evaluations for Intertek's diverse clientele at their respective sites. This position requires significant travel to various customer locations across the UK and Europe, in addition to visits to Intertek facilities.

Candidate Profile

As a Senior Electrical Safety Testing Engineer, you should have a robust understanding of component-level electronics.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory:

  • Ability to interpret national and international regulations and standards pertinent to the product being assessed
  • Proficiency in analyzing electrical schematics, diagrams, and manufacturing guidelines
  • Experience in product evaluation in accordance with applicable standards
  • Familiarity with principles and practices of manufacturing systems
  • Capability to troubleshoot at the component level, gather data, and make informed technical decisions
  • Experience in the design and development of safety-critical functions in electrical devices
  • Ability to produce test reports for clients and certification purposes
  • Experience in evaluating industrial and commercial products to IEC/EN 61010 standards
  • Experience in evaluating industrial and commercial products to UL and CSA standards
  • Physical dexterity to operate testing equipment effectively
  • Willingness to travel up to 70% as required by business needs

Preferred:

  • Background in product safety evaluation
  • Experience in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory
Opportunity Overview

In the role of Senior Electrical Safety Testing Engineer, you will work closely with clients within the Intertek Electrical UK team to evaluate their products and documentation, ensuring compliance with relevant testing standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and execute designated testing programs on client products at their locations
  • Conduct evaluations of products in line with standards, addressing aspects such as ratings, leakage current, dielectric properties, temperature, pressure, stability, mechanical hazards, and flammability
  • Validate project scope and sample relevance
  • Prepare comprehensive evaluation and stage reports summarizing project outcomes
  • Review client specifications and develop testing plans/quotations in collaboration with sales teams
  • Support sales teams during client engagements
  • Provide project updates to clients and Intertek management
  • Develop Engineering Work Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Assess the applicability of national and international regulations and standards for the products under review
  • Review construction details for adherence to applicable standards
  • Communicate project status and testing results to clients and management throughout the evaluation process
  • Identify and document engineering judgments in accordance with company guidelines

Full Time. Permanent. 37.5 hours per week. Extensive travel across the UK and Europe required.
