Position Overview

Our client, The Stephen James Partnership, is in search of a Lead Competition Counsel to enhance their legal team. This role will focus on a variety of competition and regulatory issues within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take charge of legal and strategic initiatives, providing expert advice on UK and EU competition and regulatory law. You will serve as a trusted legal advisor and business partner, collaborating with stakeholders at all levels, including senior executives.
  • Identify innovative approaches to leverage competition and regulatory law in support of the organization's strategic objectives.
  • Engage with external parties, including clients, regulatory bodies, and competition authorities, regarding competition and regulatory law matters. Lead teams in delivering legal counsel on contentious issues to secure optimal business results.
  • Advise on the feasibility of litigation against regulatory bodies and third parties, and if necessary, manage cases before relevant courts, including the Competition Appeal Tribunal and the Competition & Market Authority, with the assistance of external legal experts.
  • Oversee the budget for competition and regulatory law cases, ensuring effective management and delivery.
  • Initiate training programs and develop best practice documentation related to competition law. Manage cross-departmental projects, mentor junior team members, drive performance enhancements, and coordinate with governance offices to ensure compliance.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified legal professional with a minimum of 7 years of post-qualification experience, preferably in England and Wales.
  • Proven experience in handling competition and regulatory matters.
  • Experience in both advisory and contentious competition/regulatory issues.
  • Previous experience supervising junior legal staff is advantageous.
  • Open to candidates with regulatory experience or those currently working within an in-house legal environment.
