We are pleased to present an opportunity to join our esteemed Trust as the Clinical Operations Manager for Patient Flow. We seek a dedicated professional who will guide and enhance our established Clinical Site Team while also providing support to the broader Trust. The ideal candidate will be a Registered Nurse with substantial managerial experience and a comprehensive understanding of flow management, alongside the capability to facilitate discharge processes and minimize hospital stay durations, all while prioritizing exceptional patient care quality.

The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday on-site at our Trust, with responsibilities that include undertaking Senior Manager on-call duties as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

The Clinical Operations Manager will be accountable for delivering senior professional, operational, and strategic clinical leadership to the Clinical Site Management Team, fostering team development and effectiveness. This role will focus on supporting initiatives aimed at reducing prolonged hospital stays and collaborating closely with Care Group teams to alleviate patient delays within the organization. The post holder will actively oversee patient flow from admission through to discharge, coordinating with relevant clinical teams and Care Groups to resolve flow-related challenges. This position will serve as 'Silver on site' during daytime hours and will work in conjunction with Silver on Call colleagues in accordance with established escalation protocols. The role demands the cultivation of strong working relationships with clinical teams across the Trust and within community settings. The candidate should possess recent management experience within the NHS, including responsibilities related to operational matters such as staff management, budget oversight, and performance targets.

Essential Qualifications

  • 1st Level Registered Nurse

Knowledge Requirements

  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of national standards and Trust KPIs related to flow and discharge
  • Specialist knowledge of clinical specialties supported by theoretical and practical experience
  • Awareness of current professional and health service priorities
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance and patient safety agendas
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations
  • Familiarity with confidentiality and safeguarding protocols

Experience Requirements

  • Extensive experience in a senior/matron role
  • In-depth experience in patient flow management with a thorough understanding of the subject
  • Proven leadership and management experience in nursing/midwifery
  • Experience in leading change and problem-solving in clinical environments
  • Familiarity with standard setting and audit processes
  • Experience in influencing clinical practice
  • Background in research and/or publication is advantageous

Desirable Qualifications

  • Participation in or leadership of a research project
  • Training in Root Cause Analysis

Essential Qualifications

  • Teaching qualification or equivalent relevant experience
  • Degree-level education
  • Master’s level education or equivalent
  • Qualification in a leadership program or evidence of practical application of expertise at this level
