This is an excellent opportunity to join the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust as a Primary Care Physiotherapist within our dedicated First Contact Physiotherapy Service. We are seeking motivated and qualified Physiotherapists to become part of our supportive and patient-focused team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assessing and triaging patients during 20-minute consultations, following the appropriate care navigation by GP practice teams.

As a Primary Care Physiotherapist, you will function at an advanced clinical level, possessing the skills necessary to evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage musculoskeletal (MSK) issues and other undifferentiated conditions.

The successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Compliance with or progress towards the First Contact Practitioners Roadmap to Practice.
  • A commitment to service excellence and enhancing patient experiences.
  • Development of advanced MSK assessment capabilities.
  • Significant clinical experience in MSK and Orthopaedic settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assume professional accountability as a First Contact Physiotherapist, utilizing high-level decision-making and clinical reasoning to assess, diagnose, and triage patients, including those with undifferentiated conditions. This role involves seeing patients without prior GP contact to establish a swift and accurate diagnosis and management plan.
  • Optimize patient care pathways by delivering a responsive service that ensures timely access to treatment.
  • Focus on proactive and preventive care, emphasizing early intervention.
  • Provide individualized care tailored to each patient's unique needs, considering their clinical status and overall well-being.
  • Support the FCP Clinical Lead and contribute to service delivery and enhancement.
  • Mentor, supervise, and coordinate the activities of therapists, students, and other primary care personnel.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy.
  • Post-graduate qualifications relevant to MSK & Orthopaedic specialties at the Master's level or equivalent.
  • Ability to travel independently across the region and access a suitable vehicle for work purposes. Adjustments can be made in accordance with the Equality Act 2010 if necessary.
  • Progress towards completion of the First Contact Practitioner Roadmap Stage 1 & 2, either through portfolio or HEI route.

Desirable

  • Non-medical prescribing qualification or willingness to pursue.
  • Membership in the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy; management/leadership qualification or equivalent.
  • Completion of a recognized IT course (ECDL/Elite/MOST).
  • Completion of the First Contact Practitioner Roadmap Stage 1 & 2, either through portfolio or HEI route.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Evidence of advanced clinical reasoning skills in assessing and managing patients with NMSK conditions.
  • Leadership and management expertise gained through CPD and experience.
  • Familiarity with standardized assessments and development of relevant outcome measures.
  • Knowledge of available equipment and ability to assess and fit as needed.
  • Understanding of national legislation, guidance, and regulatory frameworks, including NSF, NICE, Information Governance, Equality and Diversity, Data Protection, Safeguarding, and Professional and Clinical Guidelines.
  • Awareness of Clinical Governance and its implications for service areas.
  • Participation in clinical audits and evidence-gathering methods.
  • Continuous improvement through benchmarking and sharing best practices.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety regulations in the workplace and their implications for service areas.
  • Awareness of relevant health and social care legislation.

  • Evidence of utilizing performance management systems.
  • Membership in regional/national specialist groups/forums.
