Position Overview

Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust is in search of a dedicated and skilled Consultant Psychiatrist to enhance our Early Intervention Service (EIS) and the Kilburn Locality Community Mental Health Team. This role is vital due to the retirement of a part-time consultant and the ongoing need for part-time support within the EIS.

The successful candidate will assume consultant and Responsible Clinician (RC) duties for a specific caseload of clients managed by the Kilburn Locality Community Mental Health Team, alongside a limited caseload in the EIS. The role also includes providing guidance and oversight as a seasoned Consultant.

Key Responsibilities

1. Oversee, evaluate, and deliver professional mentorship to medical personnel as coordinated with fellow consultants and the medical director, adhering to the Trust's guidelines.

2. Ensure that medical staff under your supervision comply with the New Deal and Working Time Directive.

3. Execute administrative tasks related to patient care, ensuring accurate and timely documentation of clinical activities through the Trust's clinical information systems.

4. Engage in service and business planning for the locality and, when necessary, for the broader mental health services.

5. Participate in the Trust's academic programs as part of ongoing professional development.

6. Conduct annual job plan reviews with the clinical manager, ensuring alignment with service changes and delivery.

7. Collaborate with local management and professional colleagues to maintain efficient service operations.

8. Adhere to the Trust's established policies, procedures, and financial management protocols, supporting the medical director and other managers in service planning.

Core Clinical Duties

For the Kilburn Role:

  • Conduct assessments of new patients and supervise assessments performed by team members.
  • Actively participate in the multidisciplinary team delivering care.
  • Hold senior medical responsibility for the care provided by the Community Mental Health Team.
  • Monitor and review caseloads to ensure suitable care packages and facilitate discharges to maintain patient flow.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the Community Mental Health Team and other service areas as needed.
  • Perform home visits for assessment and treatment as part of the CMHT.
  • Conduct emergency domiciliary assessments.
  • Engage in research and clinical audits as part of clinical responsibilities.
  • Participate in collaborative planning for future service enhancements.
  • Facilitate admissions and discharges through close coordination with inpatient wards.
  • Liaise with Home Treatment Teams, Psychiatric Liaison Services, AMHP services, and Forensic Services within the borough.

For the EIS Role:

  • Conduct thorough psychiatric and risk assessments, contributing to the planning and implementation of care plans for service users.
  • Deliver assessments in various settings, including home visits, to ensure a non-stigmatizing approach.
  • Work flexibly to enhance access to services for clients and their caregivers.
  • Review clients in the community and those requiring hospital admissions for comprehensive evaluations.
  • Actively engage as a member of the multidisciplinary team, taking turns in leading daily meetings.
  • Involve service users and caregivers in the treatment and care planning processes.
  • Effectively communicate with relevant agencies, mental health providers, GPs, and families regarding client care.
  • Maintain up-to-date, accurate, and legible clinical records.
  • Ensure all discharge processes are appropriately managed, with clients diagnosed using the ICD11 coding system.
  • Input data into patient information systems and participate in audits and quality improvement activities.
  • Engage in Continuing Professional Development and annual appraisals in accordance with Trust policies.
