Fixed-Term Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Psychological Support Assistant to contribute significantly to the implementation of formulation-driven brief psychological interventions within our innovative Psychological Skills Service (PSS).

The PSS has been established as part of a transformative initiative within the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, recognized as a national model for the reformation of primary and community mental health services.

The primary aim of this initiative is to create a cohesive mental health care pathway that effectively bridges existing service gaps. The PSS is designed to provide essential support to individuals who may otherwise find themselves without adequate care between primary and secondary services.

Key Responsibilities

As a member of our multidisciplinary team, which includes Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, Clinical Associate Psychologists, and other health professionals, your daily responsibilities will encompass:

  • Delivering brief psychological interventions, particularly those aimed at assisting individuals during the stabilization phase of recovery from complex trauma.
  • Co-facilitating therapeutic groups focused on 'Understanding and Coping with Trauma.'
  • Monitoring intervention effectiveness through the management of outcome measurement processes.
  • Actively participating in the PSS 'Neurodiversity Pathway.'
  • Conducting screenings for ASD/ADHD.
  • Supporting clients in recognizing how ADHD/ASD traits influence their daily functioning to collaboratively develop personalized support plans.
  • Facilitating educational sessions relevant to Neurodivergence.
  • Assisting the team in creating new resources, including conducting literature reviews.

Comprehensive training and ongoing supervision from a qualified clinical psychologist will be provided to ensure your confidence and professional growth in this role.

Job Responsibilities

This role requires independent travel to meet service demands. A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle are essential.

  • Assist in coordinating and delivering CBT-based brief psychological interventions.
  • Support the collection and analysis of data for service evaluation.
  • Help coordinate and facilitate psychoeducational groups.
  • Exhibit effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Engage positively with all stakeholders.
  • Assist in developing clinical and training materials.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Provide advice and training to staff across various services.
  • Conduct literature searches to support evidence-based practices.
  • Adhere to local and national health and social policy guidelines.
  • Comply with Trust policies regarding Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, and Confidentiality.
  • Regularly review and provide feedback on outcomes to enhance service delivery.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to ensure comprehensive care for service users.
  • Ensure clinical practices align with relevant guidelines and Trust policies.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • A minimum of an upper second-class honours degree in psychology.
  • Eligibility for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
  • Experience working as an Assistant Psychologist.
  • Experience with adults facing mental health challenges.
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary team setting.
  • Experience delivering individual CBT/DBT interventions.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate training in relevant psychology or mental health areas.
  • Experience in evaluating or auditing healthcare practices.
  • Experience delivering group interventions.

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly in emotionally charged environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and adapt materials for optimal understanding.
  • Understanding of professional boundaries and the importance of supervision.

Desirable

  • Acknowledge and accommodate sensory impairments in communication.

Knowledge and Understanding

Essential

  • Understanding the purpose of supervision.
  • Ability to reflect on personal and professional experiences.
  • Application of psychological knowledge to mental health contexts.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of CBT for anxiety and depression.
  • Experience contributing to group programs based on CBT/DBT.
  • Knowledge of CFT/ACT or DBT methodologies.
