Peterborough, Peterborough, United Kingdom Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Full time

Position Overview

Fixed Term Contract Opportunity

We are pleased to announce a unique opportunity for a Band Higher Assistant Psychologist to join our evolving Forensic Psychiatry Community Service on a full-time basis.

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust is one of the key providers of specialized mental health and learning disability services in the East of England. We collaborate with various partners to ensure a cohesive care pathway that is accessible to the communities we serve.

This advanced specialist service comprises multi-disciplinary teams that cater to the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough population. Our focus is on adults diagnosed with mental health conditions and/or learning disabilities who pose a risk of significant harm to others, aiming to effectively manage risk and reduce re-offending.

In partnership with individuals, we create personalized care plans that address their unique needs. Our service employs a compassionate and trauma-informed approach to facilitate relapse prevention and recovery, empowering individuals to achieve their full potential while supporting them in leading meaningful lives within the community.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will receive supervision to aid in the development of psychological case formulations (including CFT, CBT, DBT, and trauma-focused therapies) and enhanced risk assessment tools (such as HCR-v and SAPROF).

Additionally, there will be opportunities to conduct psycho-educational sessions for service users (both individual and group settings) and to provide supportive activities for the staff team, including training and supervision. This role also offers insights into multi-agency risk management processes, as well as a broader understanding of services available for this client group through participation in CPA reviews and ward rounds in secure hospital settings.

Moreover, the position includes various clinically related administrative and audit tasks. The post-holder will be expected to work independently according to a plan established with a qualified psychologist, adhering to the team's policies and procedures.

Service Objectives

  • Ensure a streamlined transition from inpatient to community care
  • Facilitate robust discharge processes through collaborative support services
  • Deliver a seamless care pathway centered around individual needs

You will become part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team comprising psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, support workers, and administrators, all committed to providing high-quality care and treatment to service users with forensic backgrounds.

About Our Organization

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust is devoted to delivering exceptional health and social care with compassion, aiming to enhance the health and well-being of those we serve while empowering them to lead fulfilling lives.

Our clinical teams provide a wide range of NHS services, not only in inpatient and primary care settings but also within the community. These services encompass mental health care for children, adults, and older individuals, as well as forensic and specialized mental health services, learning disabilities, primary care, liaison psychiatry, substance misuse, and social care.

To fulfill our mission, we seek to recruit high-caliber candidates who align with our vision and values. As an equal opportunities employer, we encourage applications from all sectors of the community, particularly from under-represented groups.
