Senior Physiotherapy Specialist

Winchester, Hampshire, United Kingdom Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

We are pleased to announce a new opportunity for a Senior Physiotherapy Specialist with a focus on neurological disorders (excluding stroke) to become a vital member of our dedicated and collaborative team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in identifying suitable patients for specialized assessment, treatment, and ongoing care plans, ensuring the highest standards of service for this specific patient group. The individual must be adept at engaging with the broader multidisciplinary team (MDT) and external organizations as necessary, while also contributing to service enhancement initiatives.

The role requires the post holder to lead educational efforts in this specialized field within our team, mentoring colleagues to elevate their expertise and competencies. This will encompass one-on-one supervision, collaborative practice, informal and formal training sessions, as well as involvement in service improvement projects.

We are committed to providing support and professional development opportunities, both internally and externally, including collaborative work with other services as appropriate. There will be chances to attend specialized training courses, with the expectation that the post holder will disseminate this knowledge to the wider team.

Due to the overlap with respiratory conditions, the candidate must be prepared to participate in the respiratory on-call rota and, alongside other senior physiotherapists, take an active role in organizing the rota and enhancing the skills of other staff members as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contributing to the provision of a comprehensive seven-day therapy service in acute care settings, including areas such as intensive care, surgical units, geriatric care, respiratory therapy, and general medicine.
  • Taking a leadership role in the delivery of the respiratory on-call physiotherapy service.
  • Engaging in advanced assessment and treatment of patients, particularly those with complex needs, while maintaining accurate records as an independent practitioner.
  • Leading the supervision and training of other staff and students within the acute care environment.
  • Providing expert clinical leadership and being accountable for service development, including undertaking quality improvement initiatives.
  • Establishing and monitoring practice standards, implementing policies and changes across the acute therapy service, and making recommendations to team leads as necessary.
