Reading, Reading, United Kingdom Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust Full time

Job Overview

Are you interested in joining a dedicated team that assists individuals who have interacted with law enforcement, have faced arrest, or are at risk of entering the criminal justice system soon?

We are seeking a Support Time & Recovery (STR) Worker for our Thames Valley Liaison & Diversion Service.

As a candidate, you should be enthusiastic, proactive, and committed to positively impacting the lives and futures of young individuals. Your role will involve fostering and enhancing relationships with various stakeholders, including youth offending teams and local police, while advocating for the needs of young people.

You will provide individualized support in police custody, court settings, and within the community, focusing on areas such as anger management and emotional regulation, with the aim of reducing reoffending and steering young people away from further police interactions.

Our services span across multiple locations. While your primary base can be flexible, you will be required to travel throughout the region to engage with young individuals. You should be adept at managing your own schedule and working autonomously.

This position operates Monday to Friday, from 9 AM to 5 PM. We are looking for candidates with an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualifications/experience. Whether you are a recent graduate entering the social care field or already have experience in the sector, your passion and commitment to supporting vulnerable youth are what matter most. Please note that sponsorship for overseas candidates is not available for this position, and you must possess the right to work in the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Liaison and Diversion practitioners as part of the team under the guidance of the team leader.
  • Assist individuals within the criminal justice system by addressing practical issues affecting their health and well-being.
  • Conduct time-limited one-on-one sessions with clients in the criminal justice system, delivering psychoeducational support that helps them and their families understand their challenges and develop personal coping strategies. Areas of focus may include anger management, emotional regulation, and essential life skills.
  • Build connections with community resources and agencies to facilitate better access to services.
  • Work flexibly across the community, including custody suites and magistrates' courts.
  • Operate independently with agreed-upon goals, which will be reviewed through regular supervision.
