Reading, Reading, United Kingdom Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust Full time

Job Overview

Are you interested in joining a dedicated team that supports individuals who have interacted with law enforcement, have faced arrest, or are at risk of entering the criminal justice system?

We are seeking a passionate and proactive Support Time & Recovery (STR) Worker to be part of our Thames Valley Liaison & Diversion Service.

Your enthusiasm and commitment to improving the lives of young individuals will be essential. You will foster and enhance relationships with various stakeholders, including youth offending teams and local police, while advocating for the needs of young people.

This role involves working in various settings, including police custody, courts, and community environments, providing personalized support focused on emotional regulation, anger management, and other critical areas, ultimately aiming to reduce reoffending and divert youth from further police involvement.

Our operations span across Berkshire, offering flexibility in your base location, although travel within the region to meet with young clients will be necessary. You should be adept at managing your own responsibilities and working autonomously.

This position follows a standard Monday to Friday schedule, from 9 AM to 5 PM. Candidates should possess an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification/experience. Whether you are a recent graduate eager to start your career in social care or already have experience in the field, your passion for supporting vulnerable youth is what matters most. Please note that sponsorship for overseas candidates is not available, and applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

Main Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Liaison and Diversion practitioners as part of the team under the guidance of the team lead.
  • Assist individuals within the criminal justice system by addressing practical issues affecting their health and well-being.
  • Deliver time-limited one-on-one sessions to clients, providing psychoeducation that helps them and their families understand their challenges and develop effective coping strategies. Topics may include anger management, emotional regulation, and essential life skills.
  • Establish connections with community resources and agencies to facilitate better access to services.
  • Work flexibly across the county in community settings, custody suites, and magistrates' courts.
  • Operate independently, managing your workload with agreed-upon goals reviewed through regular supervision.
