We are the Digital Inclusion and Accessibility Standards team, dedicated to crafting accessible digital experiences. Our expertise supports numerous colleagues across HMRC in meeting and exceeding rigorous quality standards. Our efforts ensure that citizens can engage with government digital services without encountering barriers. Our team is composed of professionals from diverse backgrounds, bringing years of experience in Digital, Data, and Technology.

Opportunity Overview

In this role, you will collaborate with various stakeholders from product, portfolio, platform, and delivery teams, quickly establishing credibility and influencing others.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consultancy to delivery teams, sharing your expertise to foster the creation of accessible and inclusive services. Develop a profound understanding of User-Centered Design to effectively communicate its importance to our customers.
  • Implement AGILE and LEAN methodologies while promoting the Government Service Standards, enhancing your team's visibility and advocating for our inclusive end-to-end services across HMRC and the public sector.
  • Act as a mentor and develop comprehensive training programs for various professions, contributing to HMRC's assurance approach in supporting the Government Service Standard concerning accessibility and digital inclusion.
  • Work closely with user research, design, and customer insight teams to deepen the understanding of user needs, integrating the latest accessibility and inclusion practices into our consulting approach.
  • Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, serving as a key contact by attending regular meetings and fostering essential partnerships.

Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications

  • Ability to identify accessibility and digital inclusion challenges and collaborate with delivery teams to resolve them, managing stakeholder expectations while providing clear recommendations.
  • Extensive experience in delivering digital services through various lifecycle phases, including hosting or moderating challenging discussions with team members or senior stakeholders, demonstrating flexibility and proactive communication.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018, Equality Act 2010, and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
  • Capability to articulate the relationship between usability and accessibility, effectively communicating strategies to eliminate barriers in digital interactions and fostering a collaborative, inclusive environment.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the government strategy regarding accessibility and digital inclusion.

Technical Skills

During the selection process, we will evaluate your proficiency in the following technical skills:

  • Understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
  • Experience in delivering services that align with the Government Service Standard

Benefits

In addition to a competitive salary of £42,618, HMRC contributes £11,506 towards your membership in the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. We offer both Flexible and Hybrid Working policies, allowing you to balance your professional and personal commitments. We welcome applications from individuals seeking flexible arrangements, accommodating requests where feasible while considering operational and customer service needs.

Our generous leave policy starts at 25 days, increasing by one day for each year of qualifying service, up to a maximum of 30 days.
