Position Purpose

This role is designed for the candidate to evolve into a vital member of the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) team within the Propulsion division. The selected individual will manage projects with guidance from a Senior Engineer, Principal Engineer, or Engineering Manager, progressively gaining autonomy and handling more intricate project tasks as client needs evolve.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and quality protocols.
  • Achieve engineering objectives established by senior engineering personnel.
  • Create engine installation documentation and schematics for precise test bed configurations.
  • Identify and troubleshoot engine/test delivery issues, collaborating with colleagues to devise effective solutions.
  • Process and validate engine test data accurately.
  • Analyze engine data to discern trends and identify areas of concern.
  • Provide support to team members to accomplish broader objectives.
  • Monitor project efficiency and manage project-related invoicing.
  • Initiate and lead projects aimed at minimizing waste and enhancing efficiency.
  • Participate actively in regular updates with clients.
  • Exemplify the expected behaviors of UTAC staff consistently.
Qualifications

Educational Background

  • Automotive or Mechanical Engineering HND or Degree.
  • Relevant experience in testbed operations may substitute for formal qualifications.

Professional Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years in an automotive engineering role.
  • Experience with test beds in an automotive testing context.
  • Strong grasp of gasoline and diesel engine mechanical principles.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation (e.g., thermocouples, pressure transducers).
  • Ability to develop test automation procedures to maximize automated operations.
  • Collaborate closely with client engineering teams to implement test programs.
  • Experience with a diverse range of engine types is advantageous (Petrol, Diesel, High Performance, Heavy Duty, Alternative Fuels).

Skill Set

  • Comprehension of engine fundamentals and material properties.
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical engine diagnostics.
  • Proficient in using engine test cell equipment and software, including engine dynamometers, instrumentation, and calibration tools.
  • Experience with emissions measurement equipment is a plus.
  • Familiarity with AVL Puma, Horiba STARS, and/or Kratzer PATools test automation systems; knowledge of other automation systems is also valuable.
  • Data analysis, interpretation, and presentation skills using Excel and/or AVL Concerto.
  • Ability to produce formal reports following UTAC standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
