Position Purpose

This role is designed for the candidate to evolve into a key member of the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) team within the Propulsion division. The individual will be tasked with managing a project under the guidance of a Senior Engineer, Principal Engineer, or Engineering Manager, with the expectation of growing into a more autonomous role over time, handling increasingly complex project work as customer needs evolve.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all health and safety protocols and quality standards.
  • Achieve engineering objectives as directed by senior engineering personnel.
  • Create engine installation documentation and schematics for precise test bed configurations.
  • Identify and troubleshoot engine/test delivery issues, collaborating with team members to devise effective solutions.
  • Process and validate engine testing data.
  • Analyze engine data to identify trends and potential concerns.
  • Support colleagues to meet broader organizational goals.
  • Monitor project efficiency and manage project-related invoicing.
  • Initiate and lead projects aimed at waste reduction and efficiency optimization.
  • Participate actively in regular updates with clients.
  • Exemplify the behaviors expected of UTAC staff at all times.
Qualifications

Educational Background

  • HND or Degree in Automotive or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Relevant experience in testbed operations may substitute for formal qualifications.

Professional Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years in an automotive engineering role.
  • Experience in an automotive testing environment with test bed operations.
  • Strong understanding of gasoline and diesel engine mechanics.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation (e.g., thermocouples, pressure transducers).
  • Capability to develop test automation procedures to maximize automated operations.
  • Collaborate closely with customer engineering teams to execute test programs.
  • Experience with various engine types is advantageous (e.g., Petrol, Diesel, High Performance, Heavy Duty, Alternative Fuels).

Skills

  • Comprehension of engine fundamentals and material properties.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical engine diagnostics.
  • Proficient in using engine test cell equipment and software, including engine dynamometers, instrumentation, and calibration tools.
  • Experience with emissions measurement tools is a plus.
  • Familiarity with AVL Puma, Horiba STARS, and/or Kratzer PATools test automation systems; knowledge of other automation systems is also valuable.
  • Ability to interpret, critique, and present data using Excel and/or AVL Concerto.
  • Competence in drafting formal reports using UTAC's standard templates.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
