Position Purpose

The purpose of this role is to cultivate the candidate into a vital member of the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) team within the Propulsion division. The selected individual will manage projects with guidance from a Senior Engineer, Principal Engineer, or Engineering Manager, gradually gaining autonomy and handling increasingly complex assignments as customer needs evolve.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all health and safety protocols and quality standards.
  • Achieve engineering targets as set by senior engineering personnel.
  • Create comprehensive engine installation documentation and schematics for precise test bed configurations.
  • Detect engine/test delivery issues and collaborate with team members to devise effective solutions.
  • Process and validate engine testing data accurately.
  • Analyze engine data to identify trends and potential concerns.
  • Provide support to colleagues to meet broader objectives.
  • Monitor project efficiency and manage project-related invoicing.
  • Initiate and lead projects aimed at waste reduction and efficiency optimization.
  • Participate actively in regular updates with clients.
  • Exemplify the expected behaviors of UTAC staff consistently.
QualificationsEducational Background
  • HND or Degree in Automotive or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Relevant testbed operation experience may substitute formal qualifications.
Professional Experience
  • A minimum of 2 years in an automotive engineering role.
  • Experience in a test bed environment within the automotive sector.
  • Strong grasp of gasoline and diesel engine mechanical principles.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation (e.g., thermocouples, pressure transducers).
  • Capability to develop test automation protocols aimed at maximizing automated operations.
  • Collaborate closely with customer engineering teams to implement testing programs.
  • Exposure to a variety of engine types is advantageous (e.g., Petrol, Diesel, High Performance, Heavy Duty, Alternative Fuels).
Essential Skills
  • Solid understanding of engine fundamentals and material properties.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical engine diagnostics.
  • Proficient in using engine test cell equipment and software, including engine dynamometers and calibration tools.
  • Experience with emissions measurement equipment is a plus.
  • Familiarity with AVL Puma, Horiba STARS, and/or Kratzer PATools test automation systems is desirable.
  • Ability to interpret, critique, and present data using Excel and/or AVL Concerto.
  • Competence in drafting formal reports using UTAC's standard formats.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
