Position Purpose

The purpose of this role is to cultivate the candidate into a vital member of the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) team within the Propulsion division. The individual will manage a project with guidance from a Senior Engineer, Principal Engineer, or Engineering Manager, gradually evolving to handle more complex project tasks as customer needs evolve.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all health and safety and quality protocols.
  • Achieve engineering objectives established by senior engineering personnel.
  • Create engine installation documentation and schematics for precise test bed configurations.
  • Detect engine/test delivery issues and collaborate with colleagues to devise effective solutions.
  • Process and validate engine testing data.
  • Analyze engine data to identify trends and potential concerns.
  • Support team members to achieve broader objectives.
  • Monitor project efficiency and manage project-related invoicing.
  • Initiate and lead efforts to minimize waste and enhance efficiency.
  • Participate actively in regular customer update meetings.
  • Exemplify the behaviors expected of UTAC personnel at all times.
Qualifications

Educational Background

  • HND or Degree in Automotive or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Relevant experience in testbed operations may substitute for formal qualifications.

Professional Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years in an automotive engineering field.
  • Experience in a test bed within an automotive testing environment.
  • Strong grasp of gasoline and diesel engine mechanical principles.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation (e.g., thermocouples, pressure transducers).
  • Ability to develop test automation procedures and schedules to maximize automated operations.
  • Collaborate closely with customer engineering teams to design and execute test programs.
  • Experience with a diverse range of engine types is a plus (e.g., Petrol, Diesel, High Performance, Heavy Duty, Alternative Fuels).

Essential Skills

  • Comprehension of engine fundamentals and material properties.
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical engine diagnostics.
  • Proficient in using engine test cell equipment and software, including engine dynamometers, instrumentation, and calibration tools.
  • Experience with emissions measurement equipment is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with AVL Puma, Horiba STARS, and/or Kratzer PATools test automation systems is preferred.
  • Data analysis, critique, and presentation skills using Excel and/or AVL Concerto.
  • Capability to draft formal reports following UTAC's standard templates.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
