Position Overview: The successful candidate will play a crucial role in managing elective surgical schedules and ensuring efficient patient access to surgical services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compile and maintain elective theatre lists using the relevant Trust systems, ensuring they are regularly updated and approved by surgical teams and management.
  • Communicate with patients to offer them options for admission dates, confirming their preferences in accordance with the Patient Access Policy.
  • Create and manage waiting list entries, ensuring the correct OPC codes are utilized for all patients awaiting admission.
  • Schedule investigation appointments for patients, ensuring bookings are accurately recorded and confirmation letters are dispatched promptly. For short-notice bookings, ensure patients receive a phone call to confirm.
  • Prioritize patient bookings based on chronological order or clinical urgency, with a focus on maximizing theatre capacity efficiently.
  • Coordinate the booking of HDU/ECU/PACU/ITU beds as required, particularly for complex procedures or as requested by surgical teams.
  • Facilitate the scheduling of elective admissions for cancer patients, collaborating closely with Cancer MDT Coordinators to meet pathway targets.
  • Distribute online pre-assessments to patients following the consultant's TCI entry, and inform them about necessary lateral flow tests prior to admission.
  • Re-schedule patients in accordance with the 28-day cancellation breach guidelines when cancellations occur on the day of admission.
  • Engage with other specialties for the scheduling of intricate multi-surgeon cases, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of scheduling utilization and case mix for effective capacity planning.
  • Maintain an up-to-date record of consultant and team leave, confirming list statuses well in advance.
