About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse to join our well-established team at Barts Health NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to children and young people with diabetes, and their families, in line with agreed standards.

Main Responsibilities
  • Assist in the continued development of the Paediatric Diabetes service, working closely with the manager and named Paediatricians for Endocrinology.
  • Ensure the aims and objectives of the Paediatric Diabetes service are delivered and implemented to continually improve the standard of care that children receive.
  • Act as an advocate for children and young people with diabetes, and their families, promoting child-focused, family-centered care and serving as a resource for the multi-agency team.
  • Have knowledge of the Senior CAG management team and the development of the strategic plan for the Paediatric Diabetes service, considering the continuous quality improvement programme, to ensure the delivery of an efficient and cost-effective service in line with Best Practice Tariff.

Person Specification
  • Registered Sick Children's Nurse/ Registered RN (Child)
  • Relevant 1st degree or equivalent
  • Mentorship Course /ENB 998 or equivalent
  • Up to date registration with the NMC
  • Specialist Clinical Course
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Relevant MSc or working towards
  • Experience of working as a Band 6 in a relevant post
  • Experience of being involved in clinical audit and evaluation
  • Experience of running nurse-led clinics/attending diabetes clinics
  • Experience of providing multi-professional teaching/education

  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Presentation and teaching skills
  • IT literate including use of Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Organisational skills - able to incorporate priorities and work to deadlines when required.

Specific Requirements
  • The post holder will be required to work across the Trust at any time throughout the duration of his/her contract, which will entail travel and working at a different hospital.
