Vacancy Overview
Sussex Safer Roads Partnership is seeking dedicated volunteers to enhance our team of experienced individuals who assist with the daily operations of Community Speedwatch throughout Sussex. These volunteers play a crucial role in our mission to lower speed limits across the region, directly influencing the number of individuals Killed or Seriously Injured on Sussex roads. If you are passionate about promoting road safety in Sussex, we encourage you to express your interest.
All applicants will be invited to participate in a professional discussion after the application period concludes.
Message from the Chief Constables
We sincerely appreciate your interest in joining our Police Force. It is an honor to lead the teams in Surrey Police and Sussex Police, who consistently work selflessly and diligently to ensure the safety of our communities.
We are in search of talented and inspiring individuals who prioritize the needs of the public in all their actions and who aspire to make a positive impact. If you believe you embody these qualities, we would love to hear from you.
We wish you the best of luck with your application.
Chief Constable Tim De Meyer & Chief Constable Jo Shiner
The Role & Key Responsibilities
From your initial day with us, you will become part of a policing family that makes a significant difference.
Our mission is to identify and safeguard vulnerable individuals, prevent and respond to harm, and maintain public safety.
Community Speedwatch is integral to ensuring the safety of Sussex. You will manage a range of responsibilities, providing support to CSW groups across Sussex, offering operational guidance, and distributing necessary equipment. Reporting to the Community Speedwatch Officer, you will assist in delivering training to groups, utilizing local data and priorities established by Sussex Safer Roads Partnership. As a primary contact for Community Speedwatch groups, you will be essential to the effective operation of Speedwatch initiatives. The role is dynamic and diverse; no two days will be alike.
Key Responsibilities
You will collaborate closely with CSW Administrators to input data and maintain records on the CSW online systems, working alongside the broader team to manage and address ongoing speed-related concerns.
You will serve as a primary contact for CSW groups, offering advice and support to active teams.
Your role will be vital in assisting Community Speedwatch teams at public events to advocate for road safety and the Community Speedwatch initiative.
Skills & Experience
Experience working with Community Speedwatch groups, preferably with a background as a group coordinator.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to tailor communication to meet individual needs.
Proficiency in IT systems is required, although additional training on backend systems will be provided.
You should be able to think quickly and log information accurately.
Maintaining composure under pressure and having the confidence to work independently while supporting local volunteer teams across Sussex is essential.
Excellent interpersonal skills with experience in handling inquiries and complaints.
Access to a vehicle and a willingness to travel throughout Sussex is necessary.
Why Volunteer With Us?
We take pride in supporting our volunteers. Through volunteering, you will have the opportunity to:
- Gain firsthand experience in policing
- Meet new people and teams
- Develop and enhance your skills
- Contribute to your local community
We will reimburse any travel expenses incurred while volunteering and have recognition programs in place to formally acknowledge your contributions.
As a police support volunteer, you will have access to financial and mental well-being resources, discounts for everyday expenses, on-site gym facilities, and various sports clubs. Volunteering with us will also open doors to other voluntary and paid positions within the Force.
Further Information
There are two roles available, covering different regions within Sussex.
As a volunteer with Sussex Police, you will undergo a level of police vetting, which will vary based on your role and access requirements. You may need to provide information regarding your personal circumstances and details of family members, co-residents, and extended family. This process is necessary to ensure compliance with the legislation of the Vetting Code of Practice.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your application, please reach out for assistance.
Diversity Statement
We believe that our strength lies in our people. It is vital that our officers and staff can express their true selves in the workplace, and we recognize that our organization will thrive from the diverse perspectives, approaches, and skills that diversity brings, all of which enhance our ability to deliver a superior policing service. We are committed to ensuring that our services, information, and recruitment processes are open and accessible to all.
We have multiple staff support groups dedicated to improving our understanding of minority issues and ensuring they are reflected in our work. We are proud members of various equality initiatives and are committed to being an anti-racist police service. We promise to challenge injustice, uphold fairness, and adhere to anti-racist principles within our organization and communities.
We value the unique contributions that individuals from all backgrounds and communities bring. Regardless of age, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, social status, or religious belief, we welcome your interest.
