Position Overview

This role is for a Senior Clinical Scientist specializing in Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (H&I), serving as the Deputy Head of the department. It requires in-depth theoretical and practical expertise in transplant immunology, H&I, and leadership. The position encompasses a variety of practical, administrative, and educational responsibilities associated with the H&I services provided by the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

The individual in this role will ensure the efficient processing of patient samples, managing a significant volume of approximately 7500 samples daily. The H&I service is integral to the laboratory, handling numerous patient requests each year and conducting extensive testing. The service operates during standard business hours and provides essential on-call support for renal transplantation outside of these hours.

Job Duties

The Senior Clinical Scientist will oversee the delivery of a high-caliber Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics service to the Trust and primary care providers. Responsibilities include developing policies, maintaining service agreements, and ensuring adherence to established guidelines. The role also involves supervising laboratory personnel, engaging in quality enhancement initiatives, and contributing to research and development efforts.

The candidate must possess the practical skills, experience, and manual dexterity necessary to perform laboratory tests with precision and efficiency. Additionally, they will be responsible for training staff, participating in audits, and ensuring the security and confidentiality of data.
