Position Overview

The individual in this role will oversee the efficient allocation of all CAS specialty elective, specialty transfer, and emergency patients. The coordinator will maintain an understanding of the overall demand for CAS beds from various sources, including elective procedures, emergencies, specialty transfers (both internal and external), and critical care stepdowns. Additionally, the coordinator will monitor immediate and anticipated bed capacity, addressing any challenges that may affect the timely placement of CAS patients and the overall patient flow within the Division.

Work Environment

The position is based at the City Campus.

Key Responsibilities

A full-time Band 4 Bed Coordinator opportunity has become available within our established Cancer and Associated Specialties Flow team.

Our service operates seven days a week, requiring the coordinator to work long days, with no night shifts involved.

The coordinator will be tasked with optimizing the effective and efficient use of beds across the CAS division. We seek an individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, possesses strong multitasking abilities, can adapt swiftly to changing circumstances, and maintains composure and professionalism in high-pressure situations. Proficiency in utilizing nerve center and other Trust IT systems is essential, along with a solid understanding of patient flow and discharge processes within the Trust. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are crucial, as the role involves significant physical activity, including continuous movement across surgical wards.

Training & Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Participation in regular organized study sessions to maintain skills, expand protocols, and stay updated.
  • Ability to acquire specific theoretical knowledge of surgery, thoracic, and oncology/haematology medicine and procedures to optimize bed usage within the Directorate.
  • Good general educational background.
  • Strong knowledge of Trust IT systems.
  • Experience in telephone/receptionist/clerical roles.
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification.

  • NVQ Level 4 or equivalent qualification.
  • Team-building training.
