Head of Excise Policy

The HM Treasury is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the position of Head of Excise. This is a key role within the Business & International Tax group, responsible for providing strategic leadership and expertise in excise taxation.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership and Strategy: Provide leadership to a team of 5 Excise Branch staff, setting clear strategic priorities and delivering high-quality work to support Ministers.
- Policy Development: Advise and support the Chancellor and other ministers on excise duties, including alcohol, tobacco, and vaping products.
- Project Coordination: Coordinate the development and delivery of new excise tax policies, engaging with HMRC, DHSC, businesses, and public health partners.
- Reform and Strategy: Develop and advise ministers on strategic reform options for excise taxes, aligning with the government's fiscal objectives and broader missions.
- Relationship Building: Build collaborative relationships with counterparts and seniors to ensure informed decision-making and effective communication of government policies.
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and strategic skills, with the ability to grasp complex policy issues and think creatively about solutions. They will be an effective leader, able to deliver results through others and build strong partnerships.
