The HM Treasury is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead the development and implementation of carbon and energy taxation policies. As the Head of Carbon and Energy Taxation, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and guidance to the team, advising the Chancellor and Exchequer Secretary on carbon and energy tax-related matters, and working closely with other government departments and international organizations.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership and Strategy: Provide inclusive and encouraging leadership to the team, setting clear goals and objectives, and ensuring the effective implementation of policies and strategies.
- Policy Development: Develop and advise on policies related to carbon and energy taxation, including the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, and ensure that they are aligned with the government's overall strategy on carbon leakage.
- International Collaboration: Represent the UK's interests at international forums, such as the OECD's Inclusive Forum for Carbon Mitigation Approaches, and engage with counterparts and seniors in other government departments, the EU, and businesses.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including businesses, trade associations, and environmental organizations, to ensure that their interests are represented and that policies are effective in achieving their objectives.
- Policy Implementation: Work closely with HMRC and other government departments to implement policies and ensure that they are effective in achieving their intended outcomes.
We are looking for an individual with a strong background in tax policy, energy, and carbon taxation, who can provide strategic leadership and guidance to the team. You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, and have a strong understanding of the government's overall strategy on carbon leakage.
