About the Role

The HM Treasury is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead the Carbon and Energy Taxation team. As the Head of Carbon and Energy Taxation, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to the team, ensuring that the UK's carbon and energy taxation policies are effective and efficient.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement carbon and energy taxation policies that support the UK's net zero agenda and drive economic growth.
  2. Lead the development of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and ensure its successful implementation.
  3. Collaborate with other government departments, including DESNZ, DEFRA, and DfT, to develop and implement policies that support the UK's energy and transport sectors.
  4. Provide expert advice to the Chancellor and Exchequer Secretary on carbon and energy taxation issues.
  5. Represent the UK's interests at international forums, such as the OECD's Inclusive Forum for Carbon Mitigation Approaches.
  6. Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including businesses, trade associations, and environmental groups.

About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced professional who can provide strategic leadership and direction to the Carbon and Energy Taxation team. You will have a strong understanding of carbon and energy taxation policies and a proven track record of developing and implementing effective policies. You will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
