At Octavia, we aim to enhance our volunteer support across various community initiatives over the next few years. This position will concentrate on our charity shop volunteer program, with opportunities to extend support to additional initiatives in the future.

You will collaborate with a committed team responsible for the recruitment, training, recognition, and retention of volunteers, while also assisting shop staff with volunteer oversight. Your role will involve supporting volunteers in our charity shops and identifying further volunteering opportunities across different projects. You will embody Octavia's values and mission, ensuring that your actions reflect our core principles. Key Responsibilities

  • Engage in volunteer recruitment, development, retention, and project management, including corporate volunteer events.
  • Execute elements of our community strategy to meet ambitious volunteer growth targets and enhance the volunteer experience.
  • Collaborate with a small team to achieve these objectives.
  • Promote Octavia as a leading organization that values volunteering.
  • Ensure adherence to best practices in volunteering and stay informed about relevant legislation and policies.

Volunteer Recruitment:

  • Implement our recruitment strategy to ensure we attract sufficient volunteers to meet our goals.
  • Take necessary actions if recruitment targets are not met.
  • Utilize diverse methods to recruit a varied group of volunteers, working closely with Octavia's communications team to effectively leverage our brand and marketing channels.
  • Maintain the high standard of service expected by Octavia at all times.
  • Enforce our volunteering policy.
  • Explore and develop additional volunteering opportunities.
  • Define and implement volunteer role descriptions.
  • Manage the advertising, interviewing, and selection processes for volunteers.
  • Conduct reference checks and DBS checks as required.
  • Encourage applications from a wide range of backgrounds, promoting equality and diversity.
  • Collaborate with voluntary and corporate organizations to recruit volunteers and enhance existing engagement opportunities.
  • Assign volunteers to suitable roles based on their availability, skills, and expertise.
  • Organize and deliver training sessions for volunteers on relevant policies and issues.

Volunteer Recognition and Retention:

  • Implement our recognition and retention policy for volunteers.
  • Assist in organizing the annual volunteer awards.
  • Facilitate additional recognition and retention opportunities as agreed.
  • Help organize events and activities focused on volunteer recognition and retention.
  • Promote the concept of volunteering both within Octavia and externally as needed.

Volunteer Management:

  • Act as the primary contact for volunteers, including those in our shops.
  • Address any volunteer-related issues promptly, collaborating with colleagues and volunteers according to our policies.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on volunteer targets.
  • Regularly communicate with volunteers and provide support as needed.
  • Gather feedback from volunteers and conduct satisfaction surveys.
  • Ensure compliance with all of Octavia's policies by volunteers.
  • Provide coaching to volunteers as necessary.

Experience

  • Prior volunteering experience.
  • Experience in project implementation.
  • Proven track record of achieving targets.
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Familiarity with case management systems.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Understanding of volunteering in charity retail.
  • Strong teamwork capabilities.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities, with the capacity to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Good commercial awareness.
  • Able to thrive under pressure.
  • Competent numeracy skills.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions, and resolve issues.
  • Knowledge of Octavia's mission and objectives.

This role offers a competitive salary of £33,457 along with a pension contribution of up to 10%.
