At Octavia, we are dedicated to enhancing the number of individuals volunteering in support of our community initiatives over the next few years. This position will primarily concentrate on our charity shop volunteer program, with opportunities to extend involvement to other initiatives in the future.

You will collaborate with a committed team responsible for the recruitment, training, recognition, and retention of volunteers, while also assisting shop staff with volunteer oversight. Your role will involve supporting volunteers in our charity shops and identifying additional volunteering opportunities across various projects. As a representative of Octavia, you will embody our core values and mission, which can be explored further on the Octavia Foundation website.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage in volunteer recruitment, development, retention, and project management, including corporate volunteer events.
  • Execute elements of our community strategy to meet ambitious goals for increasing volunteer numbers and enhancing the volunteer experience.
  • Collaborate with a small team to achieve these objectives.
  • Promote Octavia as a leading organization that values volunteering.
  • Ensure adherence to best practices in volunteering while staying informed about relevant legislation and policies.

Volunteer Recruitment:

  • Implement our strategy to recruit a sufficient number of volunteers to meet our goals.
  • Take necessary actions if recruitment targets are not met.
  • Utilize diverse methods to attract a varied group of volunteers, coordinating with the communications team to maximize brand visibility.
  • Maintain the high standards of service expected by Octavia at all times.
  • Enforce our volunteering policy.
  • Explore and develop new volunteering opportunities.
  • Establish and implement volunteer role descriptions.
  • Manage the advertisement, interviewing, and selection processes for volunteers.
  • Conduct reference checks and DBS checks as required.
  • Recruit volunteers from diverse backgrounds, upholding our commitment to equality and diversity.
  • Collaborate with voluntary and corporate organizations to enhance volunteer recruitment and engagement.
  • Match volunteers to suitable roles based on their availability, skills, and expertise.
  • Organize and provide training for volunteers on relevant policies and issues.

Volunteer Recognition and Retention:

  • Implement our policies on recognizing and retaining volunteers.
  • Assist in organizing the annual volunteer awards.
  • Facilitate additional recognition and retention opportunities as agreed.
  • Help organize events and activities focused on volunteer recognition and retention.
  • Promote the value of volunteering both within Octavia and externally.

Volunteer Management:

  • Act as the primary contact for volunteers, including those in charity shops.
  • Address any volunteer-related issues promptly, in collaboration with colleagues and volunteers, adhering to our policies.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting on volunteer targets.
  • Engage regularly with volunteers and provide support as needed.
  • Gather feedback from volunteers and conduct satisfaction surveys.
  • Ensure compliance with all of Octavia's policies by volunteers.
  • Provide coaching to volunteers when necessary.

Requirements

Experience:

  • Prior volunteering experience.
  • Experience in project implementation.
  • Proven track record of meeting targets.
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Familiarity with case management systems.

Benefits

The salary for this position is £33,457, with a pension contribution of up to 10%.
