About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic Trauma and Orthopaedic team as a Team Lead. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and aspiring leader to contribute to the development of our occupational therapy service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of patients with complex health and social care needs, using evidence-based practice and client-centered principles to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions.
  • Provide specialist assessment, consultancy, and intervention of patients' occupational needs within the inpatient setting as clinically indicated.
  • Carry a caseload of patients with complex health and social care needs, using evidence-based practice and client-centered principles to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions.
  • Provide clinical and professional leadership to a team of qualified members of staff, and contribute to the development of their clinical, teaching, and managerial skills.
  • Develop and maintain a high standard of autonomous working and supervision of others in complex assessment, treatment, and discharge planning.
  • Identify areas for service development and projects for the team to complete, and contribute to the delivery of the occupational therapy development plan.
  • Participate in the planning, development, and evaluation of occupational therapy services within a designated area/team, holding responsibility for defined projects.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and development of the Trust's occupational therapy service, and participate in the delivery of the occupational therapy development plan.
  • Apply national guidelines/legislation relating to health and social care in the NHS service provision.
  • Monitor and advise in the allocation of students in the Orthopaedic and Surgical team, and regularly supervise occupational therapy students on practice placement.
  • Co-ordinate supervision and appraisal of senior and junior staff, and contribute to the induction and training of students and other staff both within the Trust and where appropriate externally.
  • Teach on the in-service training programme, and establish robust communication networks with patients, carers, multidisciplinary members, and other agencies.
  • Ensure that up-to-date written and electronic records and activity data are maintained in accordance with professional and Trust standards, and provide reports relevant to practice setting.
  • Undertake audit projects relevant to the service area, disseminating findings at local level, and broaden research and development skills through participation in local audit and research projects.
Requirements
  • Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent qualification.
  • Current Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Practice placement qualification.
  • Experience working with patients in an orthopaedic setting at a senior level.
  • Experience working in an acute health setting and complex discharge planning.
  • Experience supervising and appraising qualified staff or students.
  • Leadership and first-line management experience.
  • Experience of involvement in audit/service development.
