Position Overview

This position is situated within the Staff Support Services, where the individual will oversee a portfolio of individual and team referrals addressing wellbeing concerns post-incident. The role also encompasses the autonomy to engage in service enhancement initiatives and represent the department at wellbeing gatherings.

Trauma Risk Management: TRiM Overview and Duties:

The selected candidate will spearhead the TRiM team at Northampton General Hospital, employing a research-backed methodology for post-incident assistance. Candidates must possess prior TRiM training. TRiM serves as a trauma-centered peer support framework aimed at aiding individuals who have encountered a traumatic or potentially distressing event. The individual will be accountable for orchestrating and facilitating TRiM interventions, collaborating closely with the service lead and TRiM practitioners within the institution.

Key Responsibilities

The individual will deliver professional leadership and clinical excellence to the service. Acting as a clinical leadership exemplar, the candidate will establish and uphold agreed clinical benchmarks, ensuring staff receive top-tier, evidence-based care. Responsibilities include managing referrals within the designated mailbox and connecting with broader occupational health and wellbeing services, as well as hospital staff-focused initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence Support

  • Actively engage as a member of the service, accountable for your practice and exemplifying the highest standards of care.
  • Maintain proactive communication with all staff regarding clients' clinical conditions and treatment plans, ensuring accurate nursing records are upheld.
  • Lead the team in assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating client care in alignment with Trust and directorate pathways.
  • Involve others in communications between clients and the multidisciplinary team, both internally and with external stakeholders, to ensure outstanding communication.
  • Engage clients in their assessment processes.
  • Direct the SoS TRiM service and TRiM practitioners in providing post-incident support.

Leadership

  • Oversee recruitment and selection processes for all staff.
  • Monitor and manage staff sickness and absence, keeping the service lead informed of trends and action plans.
  • Assist the service lead in investigating complaints and adverse incidents, ensuring lessons are learned and action plans executed.
  • Utilize Performance Management and Probationary Period policies as necessary.
  • Maintain proficient computer skills to access patient details and reports via Trust IT systems.

Financial Excellence Support

  • Exert influence and control over overall departmental expenditures.
  • Oversee the creation of effective staff rosters and approve payment processes.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for personal professional development, maintaining a professional portfolio and staying current on nursing and health service issues.

Quality Assurance and Monitoring

  • Ensure practice aligns with Trust and departmental policies to maintain professional, clinical, and patient safety, monitoring staff adherence.
  • Produce all service management documentation as requested, collaborating with the service lead on audits and action plans.
  • Ensure all staff complete mandatory training and development as required.
  • Promote evidence-based practice within the clinical area.
  • Lead audit initiatives and set/review standards for practice as part of clinical governance.
  • Responsible for the team's performance in the Trust's Assessment and Accreditation process.

Policy and Service Development Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with Trust policies and protocols, taking action where necessary.
  • Drive research and service improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Contribute to the development of guidelines and practices enhancing patient experience in line with national and Trust policies.
  • Assist in updating policies and protocols within the specialty.

Research, Development & Education Responsibilities

  • Ensure all staff receive formal annual reviews in line with the Knowledge and Skills Framework and PDP.
  • Discuss team training needs with the service lead.
  • Evaluate training undertaken by staff to effect service improvement.
  • Ensure completion of action plans from national and local strategies and clinical audits.
  • Seek out best practices to inspire new ideas and change.
  • Possess a well-developed understanding of clinical practice with effective supervision and mentoring skills.
  • Facilitate access to clinical coaching and action learning for all staff.

Corporate Responsibilities

  • Act in place of the strategic lead as required.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Trust to ensure safe care delivery.
  • Facilitate measures to achieve directorate/divisional and Trust targets, disseminating information to the nursing team.
  • Share best practices through meetings and forums.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • Evidence of ongoing clinical and professional development.
  • Qualified TRiM practitioner.

Desirable

  • Degree in Psychology or equivalent.
  • Master's Degree level education.
  • Qualifications in counselling or coaching.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience in managing and leading a team, coordinating workloads.
  • Experience at Band 6 level in team management and performance oversight.
  • Staff and resource management experience.
  • Effective clinical leadership and change management experience.
