Job Description

**Job Summary**

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Transport Operations Manager to join our team at Stobart. As an Assistant Transport Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of our transport services, managing a team of depot transport staff, and supporting the Transport Manager in achieving cost control and service level expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transport Operations Management: Manage the 24/7 transport operations, ensuring that all available fleet is on the road and declared to enable the Planning Team to plan the resource.
  • Team Management: Motivate and develop the team through engagement, training, and personal development plans, ensuring that all staff are fully trained and have the correct equipment.
  • Cost Control: Reduce non-contract maintenance and damage spends through the use of vehicle passports, daily confirmation of spend, and in conjunction with other Culina depots.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that the Transport team complies with all relevant statutes and regulations.
  • Communication: Communicate with 3rd Party hauliers in regard to control of all reported defects on drop trailers left for pre-loading.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Check and approve maintenance cost reports and related invoices, ensuring that annual MOTs and service intervals on all fleet equipment are carried out on time.
  • Supplier Management: Monitor, audit, and control suppliers, ensuring that all KPIs and costs are met.
  • Customer Service: Attend monthly customer review meetings in the absence of the Transport Manager, supporting the implementation of service improvements in conjunction with customers and other areas of the business.
  • Continuous Improvement: Generate and implement ideas with regards to staff and operational changes, which will help drive continuous improvement.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure a secure and safe environment for staff, both in your department and across the wider business.
  • Financial Management: Be responsible for the maintenance and fuel aspect of Transport Budget, to include various KPIs and costs.
  • Sustainability: Support the company in regard to reducing its carbon footprint, for example, reducing road miles.
  • Deputy Manager: Ability to deputise for the Transport Manager.

Requirements:

  • Leadership and Motivation: Personal motivation and confidence resulting in a positive impact, genuine team player, a firm and confident manager who is skilled at setting clear objectives and motivating their team.
  • Commercial Knowledge: Commercially focused, consumer-oriented, and customer-service-driven, with good commercial knowledge of transport operations, including experience of operating in a closed book, shared user environment.
  • Qualifications: National and International CPC qualification – desirable, previous supervisory experience within a FMCG environment.
