Position Overview

The Children and Young People (CYP) Mental Health Liaison team is a newly established service dedicated to providing essential support to young individuals navigating mental health challenges. This role is pivotal in ensuring that children and adolescents receive timely and effective assessments and interventions within medical settings.

The primary responsibility of the team is to assist children and young people accessing various medical facilities, including emergency departments and pediatric wards, ensuring that those with mental health needs receive appropriate care. The team is committed to fostering collaborative relationships with other healthcare professionals to enhance service delivery and training.

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Lead Clinical Practitioner to guide the team, working closely with the team coordinator and supporting various healthcare teams. The Lead Clinical Practitioner will offer leadership, manage complex cases, and provide supervision and training to enhance the team's capabilities and service quality.

This position will require travel to support different teams, and we are open to flexible working arrangements. Opportunities for providing clinical coverage during staff absences or training sessions will also be available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Influence the clinical aspects of service development effectively.
  • Utilize specialized knowledge to address new clinical challenges.
  • Conduct mental health assessments, recognizing disorders and identifying needs, while facilitating access to evidence-based treatment pathways.
  • Assess and support the needs of families and caregivers, developing tailored support programs.
  • Ensure the protection of individuals from abuse and harm.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and community services to promote effective clinical decision-making.
  • Facilitate the transition of young individuals to adult mental health services.
  • Adhere to professional codes of conduct and relevant legislation.
  • Advance clinical practices in line with national guidelines for mental health treatment in children and adolescents.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Professional qualification in a relevant field and accredited membership with recognized professional bodies.
  • Completion of mentorship or equivalent training in teaching and supervision.
  • Evidence of specialized professional development in relevant clinical practice.

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualification in leadership and management or significant experience in this area.

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to communicate sensitively with patients, families, and colleagues.
