Healthcare Practitioner in Correctional Medicine

Position Overview
In the field of correctional healthcare, you will engage in a rewarding and demanding role where your contributions can significantly impact the health and well-being of individuals facing numerous challenges in accessing quality medical care.
As part of our dedicated Offender Health team, you will collaborate with a skilled group of professionals delivering comprehensive healthcare services across multiple correctional facilities. Our approach is based on a polyclinic model, ensuring seamless access to a variety of services, including mental health support, substance misuse treatment, physiotherapy, optometry, and dental care, alongside the expertise of Advanced Clinical Practitioners and experienced nurses addressing chronic health issues.
This role primarily focuses on the healthcare needs within specific correctional facilities, and we are open to flexible arrangements regarding the number of sessions worked each week, accommodating individual circumstances.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct clinical consultations to assess, diagnose, and treat patients with both urgent and chronic health conditions.
- Coordinate diagnostic tests and referrals in accordance with established national standards and best practices.
- Ensure the ongoing management of prescribed medications, adhering to Safe Prescribing Guidelines.
- Oversee and respond to pathology results and clinical communications.
- Address clinical inquiries from the primary care team.
- Provide senior clinical guidance and leadership within the primary care team.
- Act as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to complex care pathways.
- Deliver care in alignment with Nottinghamshire Healthcare clinical protocols and guidelines.
Qualifications
Essential
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
- MRCGP or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Royal College of General Practitioners.
Eligibility
Essential
- Full registration with the GMC and a license to practice at the time of appointment.
- Eligible or within six months of eligibility for inclusion on the GMC General Practitioner Register.
Desirable
- Approved GP Trainer status.
- Postgraduate qualification in medical education or equivalent.
Clinical Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Strong knowledge of General Practice.
- Excellent clinical skills with a bio-psycho-social approach and broad medical expertise.
- Experience working in secure healthcare environments.
Desirable
- Diverse primary care experience relevant to the NHS or similar services.
- Experience as a Lead Clinician in a primary care setting.
- Experience managing substance misuse within primary care or specialized services.
