Position Overview

We invite applications for a Consultant Physician specializing in Stroke Medicine.

This is a remarkable opportunity to become part of the dedicated Stroke team in Lincolnshire, comprising enthusiastic and driven Physicians focused on delivering exceptional healthcare services to a predominantly rural community. The role involves two full-time Consultant Physician positions at Lincoln County Hospital, aimed at ensuring top-tier care for the Lincolnshire population, encompassing all facets from hyper-acute treatment to comprehensive rehabilitation. The successful candidates will integrate into a dynamic and industrious team.

This position qualifies for a Recruitment and Retention premium of 30% of the basic salary on a fixed-term basis for two years, alongside opportunities for developing sub-specialties and robust support for research interests.

Key Responsibilities

Duties include:

  • Delivering both inpatient and outpatient care for patients experiencing stroke, TIA, and suspected cerebrovascular conditions.
  • Contributing to the acute stroke specialist service, providing thrombolysis and other advanced treatments. The acute stroke services are currently undergoing evaluation in alignment with the regional strategic health authority's Stroke review. The team utilizes advanced telemedicine technology for various aspects of stroke management. Collaborate with clinical and managerial colleagues to enhance quality improvements within the Stroke Unit and the community.
  • Actively engaging in undergraduate and postgraduate education and training.
  • Participating in clinical and service activities to uphold a high standard of patient care.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Qualifications:

  • Current valid GMC registration
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Certificate of completion of specialist training (CCT) or equivalent in General Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Neurology, or Stroke Medicine (or expected entry within six months of the interview date)

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Advanced Life Support certification
  • Higher research qualification

Clinical Experience

Essential:

  • Clinical experience in stroke medicine, including acute care, TIA, rehabilitation, and prevention.
  • Ability to independently manage the clinical care of patients.
  • Expertise in stroke thrombolysis.

Desirable:

  • Experience with telemedicine.
  • Capability to independently manage acute medical emergencies.

Management Skills

Essential:

  • Understanding of clinical management roles.
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize workload.
  • Strategic planning skills and sound judgment under pressure.
  • Capacity to motivate and develop a multidisciplinary team while balancing departmental and personal objectives.

Desirable:

  • Management training or qualifications.
  • Evidence of leadership in clinical service development.

Clinical Effectiveness

  • Evidence of contributions to clinical audit and risk management.
