Role Overview:

As a Lead Engineer in the Nuclear Systems domain, you will be instrumental in crafting effective technical solutions to challenges encountered during the construction and commissioning phases of a Naval Reactor Plant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulating robust engineering solutions to address issues that arise during the construction and commissioning of a Naval Reactor.
  • Participating as a key engineering member in testing and authorization groups, depending on your level of expertise.
  • Specializing in Electrical, Control, and Instrumentation disciplines.
  • Authoring Chief Engineer Declaration Statements based on thorough engineering evaluations of the as-built and as-tested conditions of the plant to facilitate entry into the nuclear build phase.
  • Conducting nuclear safety assessments for submarine design modifications and deviations from the original design intent.
  • Ensuring that the design intent of the Naval Reactor Plant is upheld throughout the construction and testing activities.
  • Providing sound technical rationale and engineering recommendations to stakeholders to challenge existing requirements.
  • Collaborating with Build/Test teams to deliver effective engineering solutions.
  • Facilitating efficient program execution through innovative engineering approaches.

Required Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Control and Instrumentation Engineering.
  • Experience in supporting the construction and commissioning of Electrical and/or Control Systems.
  • Proven understanding of three-phase and single-phase machinery, as well as digital and analog control systems and their mechanical interfaces.
  • Strong technical report writing capabilities.

Desirable:

  • Experience in justifying design modifications, preferably within a Nuclear Plant context.
  • Prior experience in the Nuclear sector.
  • Familiarity with Nuclear Industry standards and regulations or other highly regulated environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

About the Nuclear Engineering Team:

In your role as a Lead Engineer – Nuclear Systems, you will support the design, construction, and testing activities of the Naval Reactor Plant across various programs, ensuring that the design intent is achieved in the final output. This position involves coordinating and leading the resolution of diverse challenges that arise during the construction and testing phases, with a strong focus on developing technical solutions and ensuring the adequacy of the associated safety case. You will also provide guidance to various internal teams, including Engineering Delivery, Test & Commissioning, Operations, and Project Management.
