As a Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing and executing analyses and experiments that support the qualification of nuclear systems. Your role will involve:
- Supervising design optimization efforts
- Producing and evaluating radiological safety justifications for proposed engineering solutions
- Directing the development of internal toolsets to align with departmental objectives
- Leading intricate shield design processes, ensuring a balance between construction requirements and system performance standards
Required Qualifications:
Essential:
- A relevant STEM degree in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, or Nuclear Engineering
- Proven experience with radiation transport codes such as MCNP, MCBEND, or Attila
- Strong understanding of radiation physics
- Experience in radiation safety studies and practices
- Knowledge of radiation metrology and the ALARP principle
Desirable:
- Experience in managing technical projects

About the Radiation Physics & Shielding Team:
Our team is dedicated to the design and validation of radiation shielding for the UK’s nuclear-powered submarine fleet. We engage in various submarine programs at different engineering lifecycle stages, focusing on designing new shields, assessing design changes, and conducting radiation metrology during commissioning. Our work also encompasses radiological safety studies, the design of innovative radiation detectors, and developing capabilities in radiation damage to electronics.
