Lead Mechanical Engineer

Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the construction team to provide engineering expertise ensuring the final product aligns with design specifications.
- Grasp essential requirements and critical measurements for significant structural elements.
- Lead design modifications impacting major structural components arising from various factors such as emergent challenges or process enhancements.
- Participate or serve as the engineering representative in testing and authorization groups based on experience.
- Acquire in-depth knowledge of the unique assembly sequence of the Reactor Compartment Unit and offer engineering assistance.
- Act as an engineering delegate in the planning and execution of significant construction activities concerning the Reactor Compartment Unit.
- Formulate and present effective technical solutions to challenges encountered during the construction of the Naval Reactor Plant.
- Provide technical justification and sound engineering advice to stakeholders to challenge existing requirements.
Essential:
- Degree in Engineering - Mechanical or Structural discipline.
- Proficient in interpreting mechanical schematics, including knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Familiarity with welding engineering and Non-Destructive Examination techniques.
- Experience in technical report writing and justifying design alterations.
- Understanding of stress, fatigue, and thermal analysis.
- Awareness of nuclear radiation shielding principles.
- Previous experience in Nuclear Plant operations.
- Knowledge of the Nuclear Industry and its regulatory bodies.

About the Nuclear Engineering Department:
As a Principal Engineer - Nuclear (Mechanical), you will be integral in supporting the design, construction, and testing phases of the Naval Reactor Plant (NRP) across various programs, ensuring that the design objectives are achieved in the final output. This role involves coordinating and leading the resolution of diverse issues that arise during the construction and testing of the reactor plant, with a strong focus on developing technical solutions to challenges while ensuring the adequacy of the associated safety case. You will also provide guidance to various internal teams such as Engineering Delivery, Test & Commissioning, Operations, and Project Management. Externally, you will represent the organization and collaborate with enterprise partners, including governmental defense entities.
