Shepherd Neame is thrilled to announce an opportunity for an Apprentice Commis Chef to become part of our dynamic kitchen team.

If you lack prior experience in culinary arts or hospitality, there’s no need for concern. As long as you embody the qualities we seek, we are committed to providing comprehensive training to equip you with the necessary skills.

As a Level 2 Commis Chef apprentice, you will engage with our training partner at the Commis Chef Academy, gaining insights into the fundamental operations of each kitchen section. This experience will allow you to explore various kitchen roles and discover where your passion lies.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Assist in food preparation, including washing, cutting, and portioning ingredients as directed.
  • Cook and present dishes according to established specifications.
  • Ensure proper food rotation and uphold excellent hygiene standards.
  • Prepare and clean kitchen equipment, adhering to food safety regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen, contributing to a hygienic work environment.

While previous experience in catering is advantageous, it is not a prerequisite. If you have a passion for food, are enthusiastic, motivated, and a strong team player, we will guide you through your culinary journey. Our training partner, HIT Training, will support you throughout your apprenticeship.

The Commis Chef Academy features engaging master classes and workshops, requiring travel to a designated training kitchen as part of your educational experience. You will collaborate with industry professionals, enhancing your understanding of essential culinary skills such as preparation, cooking techniques, flavor profiling, and seasonal ingredients.

Requirements:

  • Commitment to a 12-month apprenticeship, with up to 3 additional months for End Point Assessment.
  • A minimum of 6 hours per week in paid hours to complete off-the-job training.
  • Attendance at training sessions at the Chef Academy approximately every four to six weeks.

Future Opportunities:

Upon successful completion of your Level 2 apprenticeship, you may have the chance to advance into a Senior Production or Chef De Partie position.
