Ed Cornwell is thrilled to announce an opportunity for an Apprentice Commis Chef to become part of our vibrant kitchen team.

If you lack prior experience in culinary arts or hospitality, there's no need for concern. As long as you embody the qualities we value, we are committed to providing you with comprehensive training to equip you with the necessary skills.

As an apprentice working towards your Level 2 Commis Chef qualification, you will engage in fundamental kitchen operations with guidance from our educational partner at the Commis Chef Academy. This program allows you to explore various kitchen sections, helping you identify the area that inspires you the most. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will participate in workshops and development sessions designed to enhance your culinary knowledge, skills, and professional behavior. You will also gain access to an online learning platform and portfolio system.

Your Responsibilities as an Apprentice:

Your primary duties will take place in the kitchen and will include:

  • Food preparation, including washing, cutting, and portioning as directed
  • Cooking and presenting dishes according to specifications
  • Maintaining food hygiene practices through effective food rotation
  • Preparing and cleaning kitchen equipment to meet hygiene standards
  • Ensuring the kitchen is kept clean and organized as part of routine maintenance

While previous experience in catering is advantageous, it is not a requirement. If you have a passion for food, are self-motivated, and work well in a team, we can teach you everything else you need to know. Our training partner, HIT Training, will guide you through your educational journey.

The Commis Chef Academy:
The program includes engaging master classes and workshops. You will be required to travel to a designated training kitchen as part of your learning experience. Apprentices will collaborate with industry professionals, exchanging ideas and deepening their understanding of essential culinary concepts such as preparation, cooking techniques, flavor profiling, dish composition, and seasonal ingredients. The workshops are designed to cover content from recognized industry qualifications. Each apprentice will be assigned a coach for personalized guidance and progress reviews.

Requirements:

  • The apprenticeship lasts for 12 months, with an additional 3 months for the End Point Assessment
  • A minimum of 6 hours per week in paid hours is necessary to complete off-the-job training
  • Attendance at training sessions at the Chef Academy is required approximately every four to six weeks

Career Progression:

Upon successful completion of your Level 2 apprenticeship, you may have the opportunity to advance into a Senior Production or Chef De Partie position.
