Ed Cornwell is thrilled to announce an opportunity for an Apprentice Commis Chef to become part of our vibrant kitchen team.

If you are new to the culinary world and lack prior experience in hospitality, there's no need to worry. As long as you embody the qualities we value, we are ready to provide comprehensive training to equip you with the necessary skills.

As an apprentice pursuing your Level 2 Commis Chef qualification, you will gain hands-on experience in various kitchen sections through our collaboration with a renowned training provider. This program allows you to explore and appreciate each kitchen area, helping you discover where your passion lies. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will participate in workshops and development days designed to enhance your culinary knowledge, skills, and professional behavior. You will also have access to an online learning platform and portfolio system.

Your Responsibilities as an Apprentice:

Your primary duties will take place in the kitchen and will include:

  • Assisting with food preparation, including washing, cutting, and portioning ingredients as directed.
  • Cooking and presenting dishes according to specified standards.
  • Maintaining food hygiene practices through effective food rotation.
  • Preparing and cleaning kitchen equipment to meet hygiene standards.
  • Ensuring the kitchen is kept clean and organized as part of daily operations.

While previous experience in catering is advantageous, it is not a requirement. If you have a passion for food, are enthusiastic, motivated, and a team player, we can teach you everything else you need to know. Our training partner will guide you through your culinary journey.

About the Commis Chef Academy:

The Commis Chef Academy offers engaging master classes and workshops. As part of your training, you will travel to designated training kitchens. Apprentices will collaborate with industry experts, exchanging ideas and enhancing their understanding of essential culinary concepts such as preparation, cooking techniques, flavor profiling, dish composition, and seasonal ingredients. The workshops are designed to provide content aligned with industry-recognized qualifications. Each apprentice will be assigned a coach for personalized support and progress reviews.

Requirements:

  • The apprenticeship lasts for 12 months, with an additional 3 months for the End Point Assessment.
  • A minimum of 6 hours per week in paid work is required to complete your off-the-job training.
  • Attendance at training sessions at the Chef Academy approximately every four to six weeks is necessary.

Career Progression:

Upon successful completion of your Level 2 apprenticeship, you may have the opportunity to advance into roles such as Senior Production Chef or Chef De Partie.
