Join Our Culinary Team as an Apprentice Commis Chef
Shepherd Neame is thrilled to announce an opportunity for an Apprentice Commis Chef to become part of our dynamic kitchen team. If you are passionate about food and eager to learn, we encourage you to apply, even if you lack prior experience in the culinary or hospitality sectors.
As an apprentice working towards your Level 2 Commis Chef qualification, you will gain hands-on experience in various kitchen sections through our partnership with the Commis Chef Academy. This program allows you to explore different culinary areas, helping you identify where your true passion lies. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will participate in workshops and development sessions designed to enhance your culinary skills and knowledge.
Your Responsibilities:
- Assist in food preparation, including washing, cutting, and portioning ingredients as directed.
- Cook and present dishes according to specified standards.
- Maintain food hygiene practices, including proper food rotation.
- Prepare and clean kitchen equipment to meet hygiene standards.
- Ensure the kitchen environment is kept clean and organized.
While previous experience in catering is advantageous, it is not a requirement. If you have a passion for food, a positive attitude, and the ability to work well in a team, we are here to support your learning journey. Our training partner, HIT Training, will guide you throughout your apprenticeship.
What We Offer:
- Competitive hourly wage.
- Participation in a tip-sharing scheme.
- Early wage withdrawal options.
- Discounts on food and beverages at Shepherd Neame establishments.
- Discounts on hotel bookings at our managed properties.
- Access to exclusive discounts at various retailers.
- Support for mental health through a dedicated platform.
- Company pension scheme.
- Opportunities for career advancement within our organization.
- Flexible working hours to accommodate your schedule.
The Commis Chef Academy offers engaging master classes and workshops, requiring occasional travel to a training kitchen. You will have the chance to learn from industry experts, enhancing your understanding of essential culinary techniques, flavor profiles, and seasonal ingredients. Each apprentice will be assigned a coach for personalized guidance and progress reviews.
Requirements:
- Commitment to a 12-month apprenticeship, with an additional 3 months for the End Point Assessment.
- A minimum of 6 hours per week of paid work to fulfill off-the-job training requirements.
- Attendance at training sessions at the Chef Academy approximately every four to six weeks.
Future Opportunities:
Upon successful completion of your Level 2 apprenticeship, you may have the chance to advance into roles such as Senior Production Chef or Chef De Partie.
