ROLE OVERVIEW FOR TREASURER

The Treasurer plays a pivotal role in overseeing the financial operations of women@thewell, ensuring that the organization’s financial health is maintained and reported accurately to the Board. This position is essential for establishing effective financial measures, controls, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and assess the presentation of budgets, internal management accounts, and annual financial reports to the Board of Trustees.
  • Ensure meticulous accounting records are maintained and that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are enforced.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive financial policies, including those related to financial reserves and cost management.
  • Monitor the financial sustainability of the organization, providing guidance on financial controls and regularly collaborating with the Chief Executive and Finance Manager.
  • Support the enhancement and evaluation of the organization’s risk management strategies, leading the engagement with external auditors alongside the finance manager.
  • Assist the finance manager in preparing accounts in compliance with statutory requirements, ensuring the Board is informed about its financial obligations and responsibilities.

TRUSTEE ROLE DESCRIPTION

Trustees share collective responsibility for ensuring that women@thewell effectively pursues its mission, acts in good faith, and utilizes its resources wisely. Each trustee is expected to:

  • Ensure the charity fulfills its objectives for public benefit;
  • Comply with the governing documents and legal requirements;
  • Act in the best interests of the charity while managing conflicts of interest;
  • Handle the charity’s resources with care and diligence;
  • Exhibit independent judgment and accountability.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Shares the values and mission of women@thewell;
  • Possesses strong listening, questioning, and collaborative planning skills;
  • Is eager to learn about or has experience with the operations of a small charity trustee board;
  • Is prepared to engage actively in the Board’s collective responsibilities and develop skills that may benefit the Board.
