Vice President of Sustainability Stewardship Services

At State Street Global Advisors, we recognize the evolving landscape of sustainability and the diverse expectations of our clients regarding stewardship initiatives. In response to these developments, we are excited to introduce a new Sustainability Stewardship Service aimed at enhancing client engagement with portfolio companies on critical sustainability issues.

This senior-level position will play a pivotal role in shaping our sustainability strategy and will report directly to the Head of Sustainability Stewardship. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Leading company engagements that align with client priorities on sustainability topics.
  • Developing and executing a client proxy voting policy that reflects the objectives of the Sustainability Stewardship Service.
  • Integrating comprehensive sustainability research and insights into policy formulation and industry initiatives.
  • Establishing robust relationships with key stakeholders to navigate the evolving sustainability landscape and ensure alignment with client expectations.
  • Representing client perspectives in relevant industry groups, publications, and forums.
  • Engaging with clients to provide transparency regarding service activities.
  • Mentoring and training junior team members.
  • Assisting the Head of Sustainability Stewardship in driving the success of the service.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in asset stewardship, particularly in company engagement.
  • A strong grasp of sustainability issues is essential, with a preference for experience in climate risk engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex environments effectively.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, complemented by an engaging personality.
  • Proficiency in presenting information clearly and in an organized manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Capability to thrive in a dynamic environment, showcasing initiative and effective workload prioritization.
  • A collaborative working style that balances the needs of various stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail is crucial.
  • A graduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., business, economics, finance) and/or CFA designation (or a willingness to pursue these credentials) is advantageous.
