Position Overview

The Solar Energy Solutions Engineer is part of the Group Technical department and reports directly to the Solar Lead. This role focuses on providing essential support for solar photovoltaic (PV) projects, particularly during the design and permitting stages. Responsibilities include layout design, techno-economic optimization, and conducting resource and yield assessments.

Key Responsibilities

The Solar Energy Solutions Engineer will be tasked with:
  • Conducting feasibility studies
  • Performing solar resource and energy yield assessments
  • Assisting in the techno-economic optimization of solar projects, including the design of solar PV systems and their implications on the Balance of System
  • Executing various analyses to support project development
  • Collaborating with the procurement team during supplier discussions
  • Engaging in ad-hoc analysis and tool development
This role may also leverage the engineer's expertise to assist other business areas across RES' regional markets.

Required Knowledge
  • Understanding of statistical methods
  • Familiarity with the Solar PV sector and the design of utility-scale solar PV projects; international experience is a plus.
Essential Skills
  • Strong report writing abilities and meticulous attention to detail
  • Effective time management capabilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Experience Requirements
  • Experience in utility-scale solar PV projects, whether as a Developer, EPC contractor, or Technical Advisor/Owner Engineer
  • Proficiency in system-wide design, including PV design, string sizing, inverter loading ratios, energy modeling, and layouts
  • Experience collaborating on multidisciplinary projects
  • Familiarity with PVSyst or similar PV simulation software
  • Experience in designing for constructability and installation is advantageous
  • Knowledge of GIS is a plus
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python is beneficial
Qualifications
  • A degree in Electronics, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field
  • Alternatively, a relevant trade or non-vocational background with suitable experience
