Position Overview

The Senior Solar Solutions Engineer is a key member of the Group Technical department, reporting directly to the Solar Lead. This role involves providing essential support for solar photovoltaic (PV) projects, particularly during the design and permitting stages. Responsibilities include layout design, techno-economic optimization, and conducting resource and yield assessments.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Solar Solutions Engineer will:

  • Conduct feasibility studies;
  • Perform solar resource and energy yield assessments;
  • Lead the techno-economic optimization of solar projects, focusing on solar PV system design and its effects on the Balance of System;
  • Carry out various analyses to support project development;
  • Mentor and support less experienced team members;
  • Assist the procurement team in supplier negotiations;
Provide input on EPC contracts and other technical documentation related to design, commissioning, and performance, along with support for subsequent evaluations;

  • Engage in ad-hoc analysis and tool development.


The Senior Solar Solutions Engineer may also leverage their expertise to assist other areas of the business across RES' regional markets.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Strong understanding of statistics;
  • Familiarity with the Solar PV industry and the design of utility-scale Solar PV projects; international experience is a plus.
Skills Required

  • Excellent report writing skills with keen attention to detail;
  • Strong time management abilities;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience Needed


Experience in utility-scale Solar PV projects, whether as a Developer, EPC contractor, or Technical Advisor/Owner Engineer.

Experience in comprehensive system design, including PV design, string sizing, inverter loading ratios, energy modeling, and layouts;

  • Experience collaborating on multi-disciplinary projects;
  • Proficiency in PVSyst or similar PV simulation software;
  • Experience in performance testing of Solar PV systems is advantageous;
  • Experience in designing for constructability and installation is beneficial;
Experience providing technical input into EPC contracts and subsequent performance testing is also a plus;

  • Experience with GIS is an advantage;
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python is a plus.
Qualifications

  • A degree in an Engineering or Science discipline;
  • Alternatively, a relevant trade or non-vocational background with appropriate experience.
