Solar Energy Solutions Engineer

Position Overview
The Solar Energy Solutions Engineer operates within the Group Technical division and reports directly to the Solar Lead. This role is pivotal in providing assistance for solar photovoltaic (PV) projects, particularly during the design and permitting stages. Responsibilities encompass layout design and techno-economic optimization, alongside resource and yield evaluations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting feasibility studies
- Performing solar resource and energy yield assessments
- Assisting in the techno-economic optimization of solar initiatives, including the design of solar PV systems and their influence on the Balance of System
- Executing various analyses to support project development
- Collaborating with the procurement team in supplier discussions
- Undertaking ad-hoc analyses and tool development
The Solar Energy Solutions Engineer may also leverage their expertise to assist other sectors of the business across RES' regional markets.
Required Knowledge
- Understanding of statistical methods
- Familiarity with the Solar PV sector and the design of utility-scale Solar PV projects, with international experience being advantageous
Essential Skills
- Strong report writing capabilities and meticulous attention to detail
- Effective time management abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Experience Requirements
- Background in utility-scale Solar PV projects, whether as a Developer, EPC contractor, or Technical Advisor/Owner Engineer
- Experience in comprehensive system design, including PV design, string sizing, inverter loading ratios, energy modeling, and layouts
- Collaboration experience on multidisciplinary projects
- Proficiency in PVSyst or similar PV simulation software
- Experience in designing for constructability and installation is a plus
- Familiarity with GIS is beneficial
- Knowledge of programming languages such as Python is an advantage
Qualifications
- Degree in Electronics, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field
- Alternatively, a relevant trade or non-vocational background with suitable experience
