Key Responsibilities

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Endoscopy Department for the role of Patient Access Coordinator. This position is an excellent chance for individuals looking to gain experience in managing waiting lists, inpatient pathways, and scheduling endoscopy theatre lists.

The Patient Access Coordinator will serve as the primary point of contact for patients and service users, providing comprehensive knowledge and closely collaborating with the clinical team and specialty management teams to ensure that patients receive timely and appropriate appointments in accordance with their care pathways.

Endoscopy is a dynamic and intricate department that delivers diagnostic and therapeutic day case procedures for patients. The department handles a significant volume of patients weekly, making efficient coordination of the administrative team essential for scheduling endoscopy appointments and managing waiting lists. This includes closely monitoring waiting times to adhere to national standards for diagnostic procedures.

Work Schedule: The position requires working one Saturday and Sunday each month as per the rota.

The Endoscopy service is provided by a diverse multidisciplinary team, necessitating strong engagement with staff across nursing, medical, and decontamination professional groups. The department is also committed to continuous improvement and the implementation of improvement methodologies throughout the endoscopy process.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Good general education with English and Maths to GCSE standard or equivalent.
  • Relevant NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification or experience.

Desirable:

  • Customer service qualification or training.

Experience

Essential:

  • Proven experience in an administrative role demonstrating: 1. Competent data collection and data quality. 2. Handling confidential documents and information.
  • Experience in a customer-focused environment, showcasing the ability to manage difficult customers and challenging situations.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience in an administrative role within the NHS.

Skills

Essential:

  • Outstanding organizational skills, with a proven ability to manage and prioritize workload effectively, working methodically, efficiently, and accurately to meet tight deadlines.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with key waiting time targets, including the 18-week standard.
