Childcare Support Specialist (Sessional/Casual)

As a Childcare Support Specialist, you will be expected to embody qualities of strength, dedication, and enthusiasm in your role. The young individuals are at the heart of our operations, and your influence can significantly shape their lives, choices, and identities. You will serve as a role model, a compassionate listener, and a source of inspiration, helping to create joyful experiences and lasting memories.

We are currently looking for Care Specialists to join our teams on a casual basis, either in our various homes. We seek individuals who possess a warm demeanor and believe they can profoundly impact a young person's journey toward recovery from past experiences.

Key Responsibilities

In each residence, we maintain detailed shift schedules and handover documents that outline specific daily responsibilities, which may vary between school terms and holiday periods. Below is a summary of your duties during term-time:

  • Assisting with daily routines, including wake-up calls, promoting personal hygiene, meal preparation, and facilitating school runs or activities.
  • Encouraging room cleanliness, fostering life skills and independence, promoting social interactions, and supporting bedtime routines.
  • Accompanying young individuals to medical and other appointments.
  • Implementing plans outlined in activity schedules.
  • Completing daily reports and collaborating with the youth on their personal goals.
  • Finalizing handover documentation and tasks.
  • Managing daily paperwork efficiently.
  • Overseeing budgeting tasks.
  • Conducting daily room inspections and housecleaning duties.
  • Handling any necessary shopping, including meal preparation and maintaining kitchen hygiene and laundry tasks.
  • Performing specific safety checks, such as COSHH and fire safety inspections.
  • Building positive relationships with families, noting significant dates for the youth, and organizing family time interactions.

Qualifications Required

  • Flexibility in availability is essential, as the role may involve overnight shifts and extended hours of up to 14 hours, with varied start times.
  • A solid understanding of the challenges faced by young individuals in care.
  • Possession of a relevant qualification such as the Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma, Children and Young People's Workforce, NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care, or a willingness to pursue necessary qualifications.
  • Exceptional communication and listening abilities.
  • A willingness to learn and grow in the role.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a small team.
  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check, which will be funded by the organization.
  • Experience in Emotional Behavioral Disorder, Social/Residential Work, or Youth Work is advantageous.
