As a Childcare Support Specialist, you will be expected to embody qualities of strength, commitment, and passion in your role. The young individuals are at the heart of our operations, and you will serve as a role model, a compassionate listener, and a source of inspiration, significantly impacting their lives and choices. Your role will involve promoting, supporting, and facilitating the creation of joyful experiences, ensuring that the young people have fun and create lasting memories.
We are currently looking for Care Specialists to join our teams on a casual basis, who possess a warm and approachable demeanor and believe they can make a meaningful difference in the lives of young individuals recovering from challenging early life experiences.
Key Responsibilities
In each residential setting, we maintain detailed shift planners, diaries, and handover documents that outline specific daily responsibilities tailored to whether it is during school terms or holiday periods, as tasks may vary. Below is a summary of your responsibilities during term-time:
- Assisting with daily routines for all young individuals, including morning wake-up calls, promoting personal hygiene, meal preparation, and facilitating school runs or activities.
- Supporting room maintenance, fostering life skills and independence, encouraging social interactions, and aiding in bedtime routines.
- Accompanying young individuals to medical and other appointments.
- Implementing plans outlined in activity schedules.
- Completing daily documentation for the young individuals and collaborating with them on their personal goals.
- Finalizing handover documents and tasks.
- Ensuring all daily paperwork is completed accurately.
- Managing budgeting tasks as required.
- Conducting daily room inspections and housecleaning duties.
- Handling any necessary shopping, including meal preparation and maintaining kitchen hygiene and laundry tasks.
- Performing specific safety checks, such as COSHH and fire safety inspections.
- Building and maintaining appropriate relationships with families, noting special dates for young individuals, and organizing family time interactions.
Qualifications
All candidates must possess:
- Flexibility in availability, as the role may involve overnight shifts and extended working hours of up to 14 hours, with varied start times.
- An understanding of the challenges faced by young individuals in care.
- A qualification in Residential Childcare, Families Practitioner Diploma, Children and Young People's Workforce, NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care, or a willingness to pursue a required qualification.
- Excellent communication and listening abilities.
- A willingness to learn and grow in the role.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a small team.
- A readiness to undergo an enhanced DBS check if selected for the position, with costs covered by the organization.
- Experience in Emotional Behavioral Disorder, Social/Residential Work, or Youth Work is advantageous.
