We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Trauma Informed Navigator to join our team at Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Public Health team, you will play a vital role in supporting young people who have experienced trauma and are in need of guidance and advocacy.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a talented and enthusiastic workforce committed to making a positive difference in people's lives. As a Trauma Informed Navigator, you will work one-to-one with young people, building positive relationships and trust through assertive outreach and motivational interviewing approaches.

You will be trained in trauma-informed advocacy and mentoring support, and will work in a peripatetic capacity, across Derby City Centre, in young people's homes, and at locations where the role is required. Your goal will be to increase the likelihood that the individual will choose to access and engage fully with all services as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build positive relationships and trust with UASC and vulnerable young people, acting as their advocate, mentor, and service navigator as required.
  • Seek to engage with these young people using an assertive outreach model of practice, incorporating trauma-informed, strengths-based, and motivational interviewing approaches.
  • Work in a peripatetic capacity, across Derby City Centre, in young people's homes, and at locations where the role is required, to deliver advocacy, mentor, and navigator functions.
  • Accompany and transport clients to healthcare/other appointments, as necessary, to build trust and positive relationships.
  • Use specific engagement techniques, such as motivational interviewing and strengths-based approaches, to achieve the above in a trauma-informed approach.
  • Act on advocacy/mentor as directed by line manager, in line with statutory guidance and local policies/procedures.
  • Champion the safeguarding needs of clients, submitting safeguarding referrals and contributing to safeguarding planning.
Person Specification

We are looking for an individual with:

  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent.
  • Training in Motivational Interviewing.
  • Experience of Trauma-Informed Advocacy and Mentoring.
  • Experience of working with young people with complex issues.
  • Evidence of partnership working.
  • Good communication skills.
  • A flexible approach to working with young people.
  • Experience of safeguarding children.
