Position Overview

The successful candidate will be a qualified family therapy professional, holding a postgraduate qualification and registered with the relevant regulatory body (HCPC, ACP, AFT). Additionally, they will possess a further postgraduate qualification in Psychotherapeutic Therapies (CYP IAPT/postgraduate diploma in systemic family practice/cognitive behavioral therapy). This role involves delivering specialized assessment and treatment within the candidate's area of expertise.

The individual will ensure the provision of a high-quality, timely, and evidence-based service to all clients requiring support throughout the region. Establishing and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with broader mental health and wellbeing services is essential, as is ensuring that all clinical staff adhere to evidence-based practices. The role includes direct involvement in the delivery and supervision of various therapeutic interventions, which may encompass systemic family therapy, parental guidance, group sessions, school observations, short-term interventions, and specialized psychotherapeutic treatments.

Key Responsibilities

The primary duties include:

  • Delivering a comprehensive and specialized family therapy service for children and adolescents facing emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges, along with their families.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary assessments and treatment plans for children and adolescents, including their families.
  • Conducting a variety of specialized clinical tasks, urgent assessments, and providing parenting support.
  • Engaging in audits and research initiatives.
  • Actively monitoring treatment outcomes and utilizing informed measures associated with CYP-IAPT.
  • Operating within clinical practice, utilizing supervision, and adhering to the overarching framework of CAMHS and the Trust's policies.
  • Assuming responsibilities in the absence of the Systemic Family Therapist & Conduct Pathway Lead and delegating tasks to support staff as necessary.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of Trust protocols, particularly regarding medication administration and patient handling.
  • Exercising professional curiosity in daily tasks and acting on findings appropriately.
  • Providing both formal and informal supervision to junior staff as required.
  • Functioning as an autonomous professional, fully registered with the appropriate regulatory body.

Probationary Period

This position is subject to a probationary period, with internal applicants exempt unless currently undergoing a probationary period or part of the bank staff.

Induction Process

NELFT emphasizes the importance of a thorough welcome and induction for new employees. All new hires will participate in a comprehensive induction program, which includes mandatory training, systems training, and equipment allocation. New starters will also have opportunities to meet with senior management and engage in sessions focused on health, wellbeing, and key operational processes.

High Cost Area Supplement

This position includes a High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary, with a minimum of a specified amount for part-time roles.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential qualifications include:

  • NVQ level 2 or equivalent in literacy and numeracy.
  • Completion of postgraduate training in child and adolescent family therapy.
  • Eligibility for registration as a full member of the relevant professional body.

Essential experience includes:

  • Extensive work with challenging children and young people requiring complex interventions.
  • Experience with children and adolescents facing co-morbid difficulties and special needs.
  • Therapeutic work with families of children and young people with complex mental health issues.
  • Utilizing observational methods in school settings for assessments.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential knowledge includes:

  • Theory and practice of clinical interventions.
  • Legislation regarding children and safeguarding policies.
  • Understanding of NHS, Social Care, and Education frameworks.

Essential skills include:

  • Effective communication of complex and sensitive matters.
  • Ability to integrate clinical information into coherent formulations.
  • Capacity to work autonomously while adhering to Trust policies.

Evidence of personal resilience and the ability to manage challenging clinical situations is also essential.
